Braces for Adults
A person of any age can be successfully treated by an orthodontist.
Orthodontic braces were historically associated with teenagers. Today, an increasing number of adults are choosing to wear braces to straighten their teeth and correct malocclusions (bad bites).
In fact, it is now estimated that almost one-third of all current orthodontic patients are adults. Orthodontic braces are predictable, versatile and incredibly successful at realigning the teeth.
Braces work in the same way regardless of the age of the patient.
Types of Adult Braces
Traditional braces
Traditional braces comprise of discreet metal brackets which are cemented to each tooth and an arch wire connected to each bracket which constantly exerts gentle pressure on the teeth.
Brackets are available in metal, with various coloured elastics available, or ceramic material. Metal brackets are stronger but ceramic brackets are translucent and therefore less obvious, they can however become discoloured by coffee, red wine, cigarettes or certain strongly coloured foods.
